Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has declared total support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general election, saying that “Edo is completely for Tinubu.”
The endorsement was made on Friday during a high-profile meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Edo Central Senatorial District, which drew together key figures from across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the event marked a major show of solidarity for the President and the ruling party ahead of the 2027 polls.
Top APC Leaders, Decampees Unite Behind Tinubu
Present at the gathering were the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; former Edo Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole; Minister for Regional Development, Hon. Abubakar Momoh; and several other top political leaders.
The meeting also featured the official reception of prominent decampees from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) into the APC — a development party insiders say signals renewed unity and strength for the Edo chapter of the APC.
Other dignitaries in attendance included:
-
Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly
-
Chief Pius Odubu, former Deputy Governor
-
Senator Mathew Urhoghide
-
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu
-
APC State Chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe

Retired General Cecil Isegaigbe, Edo Central Senatorial Leader
Okpebholo: Tinubu Has Proven Himself a True Friend of Edo
Governor Okpebholo, addressing party supporters, praised President Tinubu for his ongoing infrastructural interventions in Edo State, especially in road construction.
“I want to thank Mr. President for what he’s doing for Edo people,” the governor said.
“When I went to Abuja to discuss the Agbor Road project, the Minister of Works personally came down to inspect it. That project has now been approved, and in a few weeks, you’ll see caterpillars on site.”
Okpebholo added that Tinubu’s developmental efforts have endeared him to the people of Edo, insisting that Tinubu will not need to campaign in Edo come 2027.
“The President is not coming here to campaign — we have already done the campaign for him,” he declared confidently.
Oshiomhole, Momoh, and Other Leaders Applaud Tinubu’s Reforms
Senator Adams Oshiomhole lauded both Tinubu and Okpebholo for their leadership, crediting the President for creating a transparent economic environment that allows state governors to execute people-oriented projects.
“When you have a good driver, you retain him,” Oshiomhole said.
“Constant change can make the vehicle collapse.”
Similarly, Minister Abubakar Momoh described Tinubu’s administration as one that has introduced the most far-reaching reforms in Nigeria’s history.
“No government since independence has implemented reforms as bold and impactful as President Tinubu’s,” Momoh stated. “These policies will put Nigeria on a sustainable growth path.”
Formal Adoption and Campaign Mobilisation
Retired General Cecil Isegaigbe moved the motion for the formal adoption of President Tinubu as the APC’s preferred presidential candidate for 2027. It was seconded by Hon. Joe Ikpea, Senator representing Edo Central, and unanimously endorsed by Oshiomhole and other party leaders.
To enhance grassroots mobilisation, four campaign buses were presented through the Office of the Special Adviser on Youths to coordinators from Edo North, Edo Central, and Edo South.
New entrants from the PDP and LP, led by Hon. Emmanuel Okoduwa, Hon. Patrick Iluobe, Ehime Edangbe, and Hon. Anthony Iselobho, were also formally received into the APC and pledged loyalty to President Tinubu’s re-election drive.
Edo APC Consolidates for 2027
With Friday’s endorsement, Governor Okpebholo has effectively positioned Edo APC as a unified political force backing President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
The show of solidarity, observers say, highlights strong intra-party cohesion and growing enthusiasm among Edo APC members ahead of the next general elections
