Lagos, Nigeria — Nigerian music sensation Rema expressed a mix of pride and humour after dominating the 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) held on Sunday night, winning three major honours and reaffirming his status as one of Africa’s most influential artistes.
The prestigious awards ceremony, which took place at the Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, saw Rema triumph in several top categories, including Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African Artiste in R&B/Soul — crowning him one of the night’s biggest winners.
While accepting his accolades, Rema, who turned 25 years old this season, reflected on his career journey and joked about his award-winning history.
“I’ve been winning awards since I was 19 and I’m 25 now, I don dey old o,” the singer quipped, drawing laughter and applause from the audience.
His light-hearted comment highlighted both his meteoric rise in the music industry and the volume of recognition he has accumulated in a relatively short span of time.
Rema’s victories at AFRIMA 2025 add to an already impressive list of achievements. Over the years, he has garnered multiple accolades both in Nigeria and internationally, including recognition at global events and on major music charts — a testament to his broad appeal.
The awards night was also notable for Nigerian music’s strong presence across categories. Legendary artist Burna Boy won Album of the Year for No Sign of Weakness, while rising stars such as Shallipopi secured wins in major categories like Song of the Year and Best African Collaboration alongside Burna Boy.
Rema’s sweeping success at AFRIMA has further cemented his influence within the African music scene, especially as Afrobeats continues its dominance on the global stage. His artistry, blending Afro-fusion rhythms with contemporary sounds, has attracted a growing fanbase across continents.
As the dust settles on another memorable AFRIMA night, Rema’s achievements have become a talking point among fans and industry watchers alike — a reflection of both his talent and the rising global visibility of Nigerian music.
