The Edo State Police Command has detained Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P, a strong voice within the Obidient Movement and a passionate supporter of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Her sudden arrest has triggered heated debates across Edo political circles and Nigerian social media, with many supporters demanding answers and calling for her immediate release.

How Mama P Was Arrested

According to reports, Mama P was picked up and taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Edo State Police Headquarters along Sapele Road in Benin City.

The news first broke online through Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, who confirmed her detention in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Tanko disclosed that lawyers had already been mobilized to work on her release.

“Mama P has been detained at the State CID. I’ve spoken to our legal director to deploy lawyers immediately. We need everyone’s support—lawyers, activists, and concerned citizens—to rally for her rescue,” Tanko wrote.

Why Was Mama P Arrested?

As of now, the Edo State Police Command has not released an official statement explaining the reason for her detention. However, inside sources suggest her arrest may be linked to a recent clash between Mama P and Labour Party’s factional National Chairman, Julius Abure.

While the exact details remain sketchy, observers believe the situation may have stemmed from a heated political dispute that escalated.

Reactions and Public Outcry

Mama P is widely known in Edo and beyond for her grassroots mobilization, bold political advocacy, and her role in strengthening the Obidient Movement. Her detention has been described by supporters as politically motivated, sparking calls for fairness and due process.

Civil society groups, legal representatives, and activists are reportedly preparing to engage with law enforcement authorities to ensure her rights are protected and that justice is served.

What Next?

As pressure mounts, many Nigerians are watching closely to see how this case unfolds. Will Mama P be released soon, or will the situation deepen existing political tensions in Edo State?

For now, all eyes remain on the police and the Labour Party leadership as the story develops.
