In a grand gesture steeped in tradition, the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has sent a royal birthday gift to the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, reaffirming the historic bond between the Benin Palace and the state government.
The symbolic presentation took place at the Governor’s Office in Benin City, where a royal delegation led by the monarch’s eldest daughter, Princess (Mrs.) Iku Aimiuwu Ewuare, and Mr. Frank Irabor, Secretary to the Benin Traditional Council, delivered the Oba’s special gift and birthday message.
Speaking on behalf of the revered monarch, Irabor said:
“His Majesty has sent us to present a royal gift to Your Excellency in celebration of your birthday. Princess Iku Aimiuwu is here to fulfill that noble task.”
Princess Aimiuwu, standing in for her father, extended his blessings and warm wishes:
“I am honored to be here on behalf of my father to present this gift. Happy birthday once again. May you enjoy long life and prosperity.”
Governor Okpebholo’s Response
Visibly moved, Governor Okpebholo described the gesture as one of the highest honors of his life.
“I am truly humbled. To receive a gift from the Oba of Benin is a moment of great honor,” he said. “As the saying goes, when you wash your hands well, you dine with elders. This is a moment I will not take for granted.”
The governor also reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the Benin throne and promised continued dedication to the service of Edo people.
“Please tell His Majesty that we remain his children. His prayers are working—not just for me, but for the entire state. We will continue to serve with integrity and dedication.”
