Concerns are mounting in Edo State over the quality and transparency of government-funded projects, as fresh findings expose glaring irregularities in contract execution and supervision.

One project under the spotlight is the “Building of Blocks of Classrooms at Ojah Comprehensive High School, Akoko LGA, Edo State” with project code ZIP20240448. The project, valued at ₦222,000,000.00, was awarded under the Federal Polytechnic Auchi (Federal Ministry of Education).

Completed But Poorly Executed 🏚️

Though the classrooms have been built, an on-site inspection revealed serious quality lapses. The buildings lack essential finishing such as:

  • Landscaping

  • Proper drainage systems

  • Standard finishing works

These flaws are shocking, given the massive budget allocated for the project. Stakeholders say this reflects poor supervision and questionable use of funds.

Contractor Under Scrutiny 👷‍♂️

The project was executed by Sam Sedi Nig. LTD, a company with a controversial track record of handling major government contracts facilitated by Senator Adams Oshiomhole.

  • The same contractor handled the abandoned ERGP20245252 project — Construction of Warake to Ivbiaro Road in Owan East LGA, valued at ₦200,000,000.00. Despite significant disbursements, the road remains incomplete.

  • Sam Sedi Nig. LTD was also behind a controversial agricultural empowerment programme in Etsako communities, another project linked to Senator Oshiomhole.

This recurring pattern raises serious questions about procurement integrity, inflated contracts, and possible diversion of public resources.

A Pattern of Failed Projects 🔎

What is particularly troubling is that these projects are often marked as completed on paper, yet they fail to deliver meaningful impact to the communities they were meant to serve. Instead, they leave behind half-done works, wasted funds, and frustrated citizens.

The Call for Accountability ⚖️

Civil society groups and concerned citizens are demanding urgent action. They are calling on:

  • The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC)

  • The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

… to investigate the contract award process, financial transactions, and oversight failures linked to these projects.

Without transparency and accountability, Edo people fear that public funds will continue to be wasted, while communities remain underdeveloped.
