Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has commended the Edo State Building Control Agency (ESBCA) for its remarkable developmental strides and contributions toward ensuring orderly urban growth and safety across the state.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by officials of the agency to Government House, Benin City, the governor praised their commitment to enforcing building regulations, maintaining safety standards, and curbing illegal constructions in urban centers.
Governor Okpebholo noted that the agency’s activities have restored public confidence in government institutions responsible for infrastructure supervision. He emphasized that proper building control not only prevents structural failures but also protects lives and property.
“The Building Control Agency has shown professionalism and dedication to ensuring that Edo’s development follows a modern and sustainable plan,” the governor said. “Our cities must grow with order, safety, and respect for urban planning laws.”
The governor assured the agency of his administration’s continued support, including improved logistics and manpower to strengthen monitoring and enforcement capacity across the 18 local government areas of the state.
He also charged the agency to intensify public enlightenment on the importance of obtaining building permits, complying with design standards, and engaging qualified professionals in construction projects.
In his response, the General Manager of the Edo State Building Control Agency thanked the governor for his support and pledged to sustain the reforms aimed at improving compliance with urban development laws. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to digitize inspection processes and collaborate with local councils to identify and demolish unsafe structures.
Residents have lauded the governor’s stance, describing it as a positive signal that the current administration prioritizes safety and sustainable development in Edo State’s fast-growing cities.
