Benin City — A tragic and deeply disturbing incident has left residents of Benin City in shock after a 14-year-old boy, identified as Prosper, was arrested for allegedly stabbing his friend and age-mate, Osamede, popularly known as Osabobo, to death during a dispute over ₦2,000.

The incident reportedly occurred around the Ramat Park axis in Benin City, where both teenagers were said to have engaged in a heated argument that escalated into violence. According to eyewitness accounts, the disagreement quickly turned physical before Prosper allegedly brought out a knife and stabbed Osamede in the chest.

Residents in the area said the victim collapsed immediately and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Swift Arrest by Vigilante Operatives

Operatives of the Edo State Security Vigilante Network stationed around Ramat Park acted swiftly upon receiving distress calls from bystanders. Prosper was immediately apprehended while attempting to flee the scene.

Security operatives disclosed that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further profiling, including efforts to determine the motive behind the violent reaction to what appears to have been a minor monetary dispute.

Community Outrage and Rising Youth Violence

The incident has sparked outrage among residents and renewed conversations about the growing wave of youth violence and underage involvement in crime across parts of Edo State. Community elders in the area described the situation as “alarming,” calling for stronger parental guidance and community sensitization.

“This kind of tragedy should never involve children of this age,” a resident lamented. “We need to look into the rising exposure of young teenagers to violence, drugs, and street gangs.”

Police Promise Thorough Investigation

A source within the Aduwawa Police Division confirmed that Prosper remains in custody and that investigators are gathering statements from witnesses, neighbours, and family members.

The police also urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information, assuring residents that justice will be served.
