Popular activist and social-media influencer Scott Iguma has revealed that his uncle was kidnapped in broad daylight in Edo State, sparking fresh fears about the rising insecurity in the region.

📍 What Happened

  • The abduction is said to have occurred in the town of Oluku, located in the Ovia North‑East Local Government Area of Edo State.

  • According to Iguma, kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of ₦100 million, but later reduced it to ₦50 million.

  • Iguma revealed the family reported the abduction to Edo State Police Command at the Ekiadolor Police Station — but, as of the time of reporting, no successful rescue or official response had been confirmed.

😢 Victim’s Condition & Accusations

  • The last communication from the victim reportedly indicated that he had been severely beaten by his captors and was in a weak state.

  • Iguma, visibly shaken, decried the state of insecurity, warning that “we’re totally surrounded.” According to him, the incident proves that “insecurity has no face — it can hit anyone, anytime.”

  • He accused “Fulani terrorists in Edo State” of being responsible for the kidnapping — an allegation that has not yet been independently verified.

⚠️ Context: A Pattern of Kidnappings in Edo

This incident is part of a larger trend of kidnappings and ransom demands in Edo and neighboring states, with many victims from various backgrounds being targeted.  For many families, ransom demands — often in the tens of millions of naira — have become a grim reality.  This growing menace has heightened calls for urgent intervention from security agencies.

🛑 What Iguma & Family Want — And Public Appeal

  • Iguma has called on the state government, security agencies, and civil society stakeholders to intervene immediately and ensure the safe return of his uncle.

  • Family members and sympathetic residents are urging anyone with information about the abduction to come forward. They emphasised the urgency of acting quickly to prevent further harm.

  • The case also highlights growing public frustration with the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of current security responses in Edo State, especially in remote areas where policing and rapid response may be weak.

🔎 What Is Yet Unknown / What to Watch

  • No independent confirmation of the captors’ identity has been made public beyond the allegation.

  • There has been no publicly disclosed update from the Edo State Police Command regarding investigations, rescue efforts, or progress toward freeing the victim.

  • It remains unclear whether a ransom has been paid, or whether negotiations are ongoing.

The kidnapping of Scott Iguma’s uncle has hit home for many Nigerians — serving as a grim reminder that insecurity and abduction risk can affect ordinary citizens, not only high-profile or wealthy individuals.
