The Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has raised alarm over alleged concerted efforts by his critics to distract his government and drag the state backward.

Okpebholo while speaking at an inter-denominational prayer service held at his residence in Irrua, Esan Central LGA, said this was despite his efforts to develop the State.

He opined that despite his government’s efforts to develop the State, some people are trying to divert the attention of his administration and set the state on the path of retrogression.

Okpebholo who disclosed that his administration is putting deliberate strategies in place to ensure sustained development and progress in Edo State, called for prayers from citizens and urged them to ask God to frustrate the enemies of the state.

“We need prayers for our land because without prayers, development will be difficult. Businesses will not thrive, and economic activities will suffer,” he stated.

The Governor who called for divine intervention for the success of his administration, noted that sustained prayers are crucial to the successful delivery of the government’s electioneering promises.

He also called on Nigerians to continue to pray for President Tinubu and his administration, assuring Nigerians that Tinubu has put up robust strategies in collaboration with relevant security agencies, to ensure the safety of lives and property across the country.

According to him, the state is now witnessing a drastic reduction in kidnapping, cultism, and other criminal activities.

He said: “Consistent prayers and effective collaboration with security agencies have continued to improve the security situation in Edo State.

“I want to assure you that our administration and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing everything possible to ensure the safety of lives and property of Nigerians and to make Edo State safer.”

The Governor further assured Nigerians and Edo residents that the Egyptians they see today in the State and Nigeria, they shall see them no more, and that the kidnappings they saw yesterday, they shall see them no more.

“The cultism and cult-related activities we saw yesterday, we shall see them no more. I request prayers for Mr President Tinubu. This is a time he truly needs our prayers because he is doing so much for Nigeria, despite several criticisms against his government.

“The President is implementing far-reaching policies and economic reforms that will develop the nation,” he added.
