The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has issued a stern warning to the management of the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) to adhere strictly to existing demarcation boundaries, in order to avoid potential disputes with the Edo State Government.
Speaking during a visit to the museum site, Idahosa said:
“Governor Okpebholo has asked me to come here to warn the MOWAA management to stick to the demarcation so that there will be no issue between the Edo State Government and the institution.”
The warning follows growing tension over alleged encroachments in parts of Benin City, where ongoing development projects linked to cultural preservation and urban renewal have sparked ownership concerns.
Observers say the move signals the Okpebholo administration’s determination to maintain peaceful coexistence between government projects and private cultural institutions, while ensuring that the interests of Edo people and heritage assets are protected.
