BENIN CITY: The member representing Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency, Hon. Murphy Osaro Omoruyi, has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after resigning from the Labour Party (LP), on whose platform he was elected into the House of Representatives.

Omoruyi announced his defection at a press conference held at the Press Centre of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State council in Benin City on Tuesday.

He said his decision was driven by what he described as intractable crises rocking the Labour Party, which had made his continued stay in the party untenable.

He pledged to work with leaders of the ADC, coalition partners and other stakeholders to promote good governance and ensure effective representation.

The lawmaker recalled that as the only elected member of the Labour Party from Edo State in the National Assembly, he remained committed to his constitutional responsibilities of lawmaking and oversight, while ensuring that the interests of Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency were adequately represented on the floor of the House.

“I have remained committed to the core responsibilities of lawmaking and oversight, ensuring that my constituency, Egor/Ikpoba Okha, is heard loud and clear on the floor of the Green Chamber,” he said.

Omoruyi added that beyond his legislative duties, he remained a loyal party member throughout his stay in the Labour Party, noting that his steadfastness earned him the description of “the last man standing” within the party in Edo State.
