BENIN CITY — The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku, has joined media colleagues and the public in mourning the death of veteran journalist, Mr. Austin Adibe Emenyonu, who passed away on Friday night.
In a heartfelt condolence message, Speaker Agbebaku said the news of Mr. Emenyonu’s passing came as a shock, describing him as “a thorough professional who served journalism with integrity, passion, and uncommon dedication.”
He extended his sympathy to the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by Dr. Festus Alenkhe, as well as to the management of THISDAY Newspapers and the Emenyonu family.
“Austin Emenyonu was not just a journalist — he was a voice of truth and balance who represented the very best of our media in Edo and beyond,” the Speaker noted.
Hon. Agbebaku encouraged the NUJ family and the bereaved relatives to take comfort in the impactful legacy Mr. Emenyonu left behind, both as a mentor to younger journalists and as a man who believed deeply in service to humanity.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and for God to grant his family, friends, and colleagues the strength to bear the loss.
