Irrua Monarch and Chiefs Applaud ACCIOBA’s N3 Billion Transformation of Annunciation Catholic College

The Ogirrua of Irrua Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Alhaji W.O. Momodu II, JP, CON, alongside his Traditional Council of Chiefs, has publicly commended the Annunciation Catholic College Irrua Old Boys Association (ACCIOBA) for their monumental investment and rebuilding of Annunciation Catholic College (ACC), Irrua into a modern, state-of-the-art secondary school.

In a statement signed by High Chief Chris Igene, Ph.D., the Enakhe of Irrua Kingdom, the palace lauded ACCIOBA for their commitment to revamping the 70-year-old institution and restoring it as a leading educational hub in Esanland and Edo State.

“We commend ACCIOBA and its members for their outstanding commitment to reconstructing the school’s dilapidated structures and developing critical infrastructure such as roads, boreholes, science laboratories, dormitories, dining hall, auditorium, streetlights, staff quarters, and a center for entrepreneurship,” the statement read.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Community Impact

His Royal Majesty highlighted that the school’s poultry and animal husbandry units have enhanced practical agricultural education for students, making learning both interactive and engaging. The newly established medical center, fully staffed with trained healthcare professionals, along with a dedicated power source, now ensures quality healthcare for students and the surrounding communities.

“Annunciation Catholic College has now become a pivotal citadel of learning, with facilities that positively impact the community at large,” the monarch added, emphasizing the broader societal benefits of ACCIOBA’s initiative.

The palace further encouraged alumni of other schools within the kingdom to emulate ACCIOBA’s dedication and commitment to improving education.

ACCIOBA’s Commitment and Financial Investment

In a letter to the Irrua Palace, Dr. Joseph Adonor Ohens, Global President of ACCIOBA, assured the monarch, the community, and Edo State authorities that ACCIOBA remains committed to the perpetual development of ACC.

Dr. Ohens revealed that the association has already invested over N3 billion over four years in rebuilding ACC, with projects comparable to high schools in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The investments span a wide range of infrastructure improvements, including:

  • Fully concreted roads across campus

  • Renovated classrooms and science laboratories

  • School library and principal’s residence

  • New academic staff quarters and youth corps lodge

  • A 20-bed medical center and sisters’ convent

  • Center for entrepreneurship, poultry, and fishpond units

  • Four boreholes providing reliable water supply

  • 600-capacity hostel and an 800-seater cafeteria

Dr. Ohens also highlighted ACCIOBA’s education endowment fund, which recently grew by N300 million and is projected to reach N1 billion within ten years, ensuring a sustainable plan for staffing, infrastructure, and educational excellence.

ACCIOBA’s Vision for 21st Century Education

Dr. Ohens, a versatile journalist, legal scholar, and healthcare executive based in the United States, stated that the rebuilding project has made ACC a 21st Century center of excellence for secondary education in Nigeria. He described ACCIOBA as a catalyst for academic, economic, and community development in Edo State, particularly in Edo Central.

“Our old boys and their families are deeply committed to transforming ACC into a modern learning institution where students can thrive academically and socially,” Dr. Ohens affirmed.

The next phase of development includes a N450 million Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Center, which is part of ACCIOBA’s broader ACC Rebuild Project, aimed at modernizing education delivery and assessment standards in the school.

Official Commissioning of Completed Projects

ACCIOBA plans to officially commission all completed projects on Saturday, March 28, 2026, inviting the Irrua monarch and chiefs, the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and the State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, to witness the transformation of ACC.

The commissioning will showcase ACCIOBA’s dedication, vision, and financial commitment toward elevating educational standards in Edo State, setting a benchmark for alumni-driven school development initiatives across Nigeria.
