A man identified as Courage, popularly known as “Dogo,” has been shot dead in Edo State following a violent disagreement with members of his group over the sharing of money allegedly collected illegally from motorists and traders in motor parks across Benin City.

The incident reportedly occurred at Eboh Quarters, Estate Gate area in Oredo Local Government Area of the state, where the deceased was attacked and killed by suspected associates who accused him of withholding proceeds from the ticketing operation.

According to reports, Dogo and his gang were involved in collecting fees from commercial drivers and members of the public despite an existing government ban on unauthorized ticketing activities. However, tension escalated after members of the group allegedly discovered that he had been collecting the money without properly sharing it among them.

Sources revealed that the disagreement eventually led to a conspiracy by some members of the gang, culminating in the fatal shooting.

Officials of the Edo State Special Security Squad confirmed the incident, stating that the killing was not related to cult activities as initially speculated but was purely the result of a dispute over illegal revenue collection. Preliminary investigations also indicated that a 9mm pistol was used in the attack, with cartridges recovered from the scene.

The killing reportedly triggered panic within the area, with security operatives launching operations across parts of Benin City to prevent possible reprisal attacks. Authorities also confirmed that several suspects have been arrested and are currently providing useful information to investigators.

The Edo State Government has condemned the incident and directed security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Residents have expressed concern over the continued activities of illegal revenue collectors despite government restrictions, calling for stricter enforcement to prevent further violence.

Investigations are ongoing.
