🚨 “The Roads Are No Longer Safe,” Mbeke Patrick Warns

Popular Edo-born content creator and activist, Mbeke Patrick, has spoken out about the rising level of insecurity in Okpella, Edo State.

In a video shared on his Instagram page (@mbekepatrick101), Patrick recounted a recent encounter while traveling from Abuja to Benin City, describing the journey as tense and unsafe due to frequent reports of armed robberies and kidnappings along the route.

“From Abuja to Benin, I could feel the fear on everyone’s face. The moment we got to Okpella, the driver was unusually quiet. You could tell everyone was just praying to get through that stretch safely,” he said.

Patrick lamented the deteriorating security situation in the area, calling on the Edo State Government and security agencies to take urgent action to protect commuters and residents.

🗣️ Calls for Urgent Security Intervention

The activist noted that Okpella, once known for its peaceful community and economic activities, has become a source of fear for travelers.

“Okpella used to be a safe place — a vibrant town full of hardworking people. But now, traveling through there feels like a gamble. We can’t continue like this,” he added.

He urged local leaders, traditional rulers, and community vigilantes to work closely with the police and military to restore safety to the area, stressing that “security is everyone’s business.”

🌍 Public Reactions

Mbeke Patrick’s statement has sparked massive reactions on social media, with many Edo residents sharing similar experiences of harassment, roadblocks, and late-night attacks along the Auchi–Okpella–Benin route.

Some commenters praised him for using his platform to speak up for the people, while others called for visible action rather than promises from political leaders.

🙏 Final Appeal

Patrick concluded his message with a heartfelt appeal:

“I love my people, I love Edo State. But if we don’t fix security, we will lose more than we realize. I pray those in authority listen before it’s too late.”
