Nasarawa United continued their impressive start to the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season with a stunning 1-0 away victory over Bendel Insurance on Matchday 7 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
The Solid Miners sealed the win thanks to a dramatic late strike by substitute Garba Mohammed, who found the back of the net in the fourth minute of added time, silencing the home fans and handing his side their second consecutive away victory of the campaign.
⚽ Garba Mohammed Strikes Again
Garba Mohammed, who came off the bench in the 60th minute, made an instant impact as his pace and energy troubled the Insurance defense throughout the second half.
His goal — his second of the season — came after a sustained spell of Nasarawa United pressure, showcasing the team’s fighting spirit and tactical discipline under head coach Mangut Mbwas.
🗣️ Coach Mangut Mbwas: “Motivation Was Our Weapon”
Reacting after the game, Coach Mangut Mbwas attributed the hard-fought win to his players’ determination and collective motivation from all quarters.
“It’s a thing of joy to get the maximum points, either home or away,” Mbwas said.
“After drawing their last home game, Bendel Insurance came out aggressively, searching for a win. But we kept resisting and pushing till the last minute — and we got the goal.”
He continued:
“All credit goes to my boys. We started slowly but adjusted as the game progressed. The substitutions we made in the second half changed everything. We are highly motivated — from the players’ self-belief to the encouragement from our sports-loving Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, the Honourable Commissioner for Sports Kwanta Yakubu, our management team led by Solomon Babanjah, and of course, our wonderful fans.”
💪 Nasarawa United’s Fine Form Continues
The result in Benin marks Nasarawa United’s second straight away victory, following their 2-1 win over Bayelsa United in Yenagoa two weeks ago.
The Solid Miners have now picked up valuable momentum, climbing higher in the NPFL standings and building belief ahead of their next fixture.
