BENIN CITY: Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the ongoing Ikpoba Hill flyover at Ramat Park, as well as the accompanying erosion control project in the area.
The governor made a stopover at the project site while returning from Udomi-Uwessan, Irrua, where he attended a three-day strategic leadership retreat for political appointees.

The visit formed part of his administration’s routine inspection of critical infrastructure projects to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.

Speaking from the top of the flyover during the inspection, Governor Okpebholo said he was impressed with the level of progress recorded so far, stressing that the visit was meant to encourage contractors to sustain the momentum.

“It’s our normal routine check, just to see what they are doing, and for them to know that we are serious and that they must also buckle up to ensure this job is completed with the speed it requires,” the governor said.

He commended the contractors for the visible work on ground, noting that the project was approaching completion.

According to him, backfilling had commenced, a clear indication that the flyover was at an advanced stage.

“They are doing a good job. You can see they have started backfilling, and by the time they cast this part, the job will already be at the point of completion,” he added.

Governor Okpebholo was conducted round the site by Mr Lee, Project Manager of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the firm handling the construction.

The governor’s visit generated excitement among traders and residents in the area, as market activities were temporarily halted in celebration.

Traders and residents were seen cheering and expressing appreciation for the project.

An elated trader said that the flyover had brought renewed hope to the community. “I am so excited about what I am seeing today. This flyover bridge is giving us joy, and when we saw the governor on top of the bridge inspecting the work, we prayed that God would bless him. He is a good man,” she said.

The Ikpoba Hill flyover and erosion control works are part of the Okpebholo administration’s broader commitment to improving infrastructure, easing traffic congestion and addressing environmental challenges across Benin City.
