Governor Monday Okpebholo will on Thursday formally present 54 units of construction equipment to the 18 Local Government Councils in Edo State, in a move described as a major boost to grassroots development and infrastructure renewal.
The commissioning ceremony, scheduled to hold in Benin City, is expected to mark a significant milestone in the administration’s drive to strengthen local governance and deliver practical dividends of democracy across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, the equipment comprises graders, excavators, rollers and other heavy-duty machines. The machinery is expected to enhance road construction, improve rural access routes, rehabilitate drainage systems and support other community-based infrastructure projects across the 18 councils.
The initiative is aimed at placing critical tools directly in the hands of local government authorities to fast-track development and reduce bureaucratic delays often associated with centrally managed projects. Government sources say the intervention will empower council leadership, stimulate economic activities in rural communities and accelerate infrastructure delivery across Edo’s three senatorial districts.
The event will be commissioned by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and is expected to attract top government officials, political stakeholders, traditional rulers and community leaders.
