Barrister Omosede Gabriella Igbinedion, daughter of the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, has been officially sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Ovia Federal Constituency of Edo State.
The swearing-in ceremony took place during plenary on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen at the National Assembly complex, Abuja.
The Clerk of the House administered the oath of office, marking Omosede’s official return to the Green Chamber after previously serving from 2015 to 2019.
How She Returned to the House
Omosede’s return follows her victory in the recent Ovia Federal Constituency by-election, where she secured 77,053 votes to reclaim the seat.
The election became necessary after Hon. Dennis Idahosa, the former representative of the constituency, vacated his seat to assume office as the Deputy Governor of Edo State.
A Familiar Face in Nigerian Politics
Known for her charisma and strong community ties, Omosede Igbinedion is a lawyer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist who has long championed causes around women’s empowerment, youth inclusion, and rural development in Edo State.
Her political comeback has been celebrated across Ovia and the larger Edo community, with supporters describing her return as “a victory for grassroots representation.”
Sworn In Alongside Two Others
Omosede took the oath alongside Hon. Felix Bagudu (Kaduna) and Hon. Murktar Rabiu (Jigawa), bringing the total number of serving House members closer to full capacity.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen congratulated the new members and urged them to “serve with integrity, diligence, and the fear of God.”
What’s Next for Omosede
With her legislative experience and renewed mandate, Omosede is expected to continue advocating for improved infrastructure, educational support, and women’s participation in governance within Edo State and beyond.
As one of Edo’s most prominent female politicians, her return to the National Assembly strengthens the representation of women in Nigerian politics and reaffirms the Igbinedion legacy in Edo’s political history.
