The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has finally explained the circumstances behind the arrest and detention of Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, who is the brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrest followed a petition received on October 28, 2025, accusing Sammy West of multiple offences, including criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, intimidation, theft, and cyberbullying.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the command said Sammy West ignored several official invitations before being apprehended in Lagos under a valid court warrant and subsequently transferred to Abuja for questioning.
SP Adeh explained that the suspect was later charged to court and has since been remanded in custody pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.
“Mr. Samuel Ojeogwu, also known as Sammy West, was invited by the police several times to respond to allegations of criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, intimidation, theft, and cyberbullying. However, he failed to honour these invitations. He was thereafter arrested in Lagos on a valid warrant and brought to Abuja for investigation,” the statement read.
The police further confirmed that the case was brought before a competent court of law, which ordered that Sammy West remain in detention until his bail conditions were satisfied.
Earlier, Regina Daniels had taken to social media to accuse her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, of orchestrating her brother’s arrest. She alleged that the detention was an attempt to pressure her into reconciling with the politician.
In a series of posts on her verified social media accounts, Regina expressed distress over her brother’s continued detention, stating that her family had been in Abuja trying to secure his release. She also hinted that she might consider making peace with Ned Nwoko if it would lead to her brother’s freedom.
“I feel powerless and emotionally broken. My family has been in Abuja for days, and this situation is taking a toll on me,” the actress wrote.
However, Ned Nwoko’s representatives have denied any involvement in Sammy West’s arrest, describing Regina’s claims as baseless and an attempt to drag a personal issue into the public domain.
“The senator has no hand in the arrest or detention of anyone. The matter is between the complainant and the police. All legal processes followed due procedure,” a source close to the politician stated.
The FCT Police Command also reiterated that due process was followed throughout the investigation, urging the public to remain patient as the case proceeds in court.
“The police acted on a valid petition and followed all lawful procedures. The matter is now before the court, and further updates will be provided as the case develops,” SP Adeh added.
As of press time, efforts to reach members of Regina Daniels’ family for further comment were unsuccessful. Sources close to the family, however, confirmed that her mother, Rita Daniels, remains in Abuja to assist in securing her son’s bail.
The unfolding saga has drawn widespread attention on social media, with fans and industry watchers expressing mixed reactions over the actress’s emotional posts and the legal controversy surrounding her family.
