… Rallies Edo residents for prayers as govt steps up security, devt push

BENIN CITY — Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “irreplaceable,” insisting that the sweeping reforms under his administration have firmly positioned him for re-election in 2027.

Okpebholo spoke in Benin City at the weekend during the inauguration of senatorial, local government and youth coordinators for President Tinubu’s re-election campaign, held in Benin City

The governor said reforms in critical sectors, including petroleum, security, education and the wider economy have strengthened the President’s standing nationwide, making any talk of replacement unrealistic.

“I promised the President 2.5 million votes from Edo State. That figure has now increased to 3.9 million. Edo people must deliver,” Okpebholo declared.

He said Edo residents cutting across age groups were already mobilising in large numbers to ensure the President’s return to office, describing the support base as deep and growing at the grassroots.

As part of preparations, the governor directed chairmen of the 18 local government councils to erect a minimum of 20 billboards each and ensure the Renewed Hope message penetrates communities, churches and mosques across the state.

Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa pledged total loyalty to Okpebholo, assuring him of full backing in delivering Edo State for President Tinubu in 2027.

Other leaders at the event, including Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku; APC Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe; and the Coordinator of Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Sylvester Aiggboboh, expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s re-election.

At the event, three senatorial coordinators, 18 local government coordinators and youth coordinators from the three senatorial districts were formally inaugurated to drive the campaign.

In another development, Governor, Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s determination to restore security, accelerate development and improve living standards across the state, calling on residents to sustain their support through prayers, unity and goodwill.

The governor gave the assurance on Sunday during a special end-of-the-month thanksgiving service at Living Faith Church, Irrua, in Edo Central Senatorial District, where he joined worshippers led by Pastor Peter Osawe.

Speaking at the service, Okpebholo described the task of governance as demanding but achievable with the backing of the people and divine guidance, stressing that his government remains firmly focused on delivering measurable results.

He noted that tackling insecurity and driving development require persistence and collective effort, adding that his administration is intensifying efforts to strengthen the state’s security framework and protect lives and property.

According to the governor, strategic actions are already underway to enhance public safety, improve infrastructure and expand economic opportunities, particularly for youths and women, while ensuring transparency and people-centred governance.

He, however, expressed concern that some interests were attempting to undermine the government’s efforts through negative narratives, warning that such actions could erode public confidence and slow progress.

Despite the challenges, Okpebholo maintained that his administration would remain resolute, insisting it would not be distracted from its mandate of delivering peace, development and inclusive growth.

The governor urged Edo residents to continue standing with the government, noting that public trust and cooperation are essential to the success of policies and programmes aimed at building a safer and more prosperous state.

He assured that his administration would continue to prioritise accountability, citizen welfare and sustainable development, expressing optimism that Edo State is on the path to lasting peace and shared prosperity.

Governor Okpebholo also thanked the church leadership and congregation for their prayers and support, expressing confidence that Edo would witness a new chapter of progress under his leadership.
